Compress an image to 50KB.

This 50KB preset balances upload-form limits with readable image detail. It starts with JPG output and a 1200px cap, then explains when the target cannot be reached.

How to use Compress Image to 50KB

  1. Start from the original portrait and crop it to the composition required by the form; avoid a previously compressed messaging-app copy.
  2. Drop the photo into the 50KB preset with JPG, Auto, the 1200px cap, and EXIF removal selected.
  3. Compare the face at normal display size and zoom in once; check eyes, hairline, glasses, and the boundary against the background.
  4. If detail is soft, crop closer before reducing pixels; if the form allows 100KB, use that preset rather than forcing a damaged 50KB file.

50KB workflow for application and ID-style photos

At 50KB, a well-cropped portrait can usually retain recognizable facial detail, but a full camera frame can waste most of the budget on background texture. This preset uses a 1200px cap and an 84% manual fallback to prioritize a form-ready portrait workflow.

Questions about Compress Image to 50KB

Is 50KB enough for an application photo?

It can be enough for a well-cropped portrait, but clarity depends on source detail, background complexity, and required pixels. Always inspect the downloaded face, not just the byte count.

Does this page make an official passport photo?

No. It controls compression and reports bytes and pixels. Country-specific crop, pose, background, and print rules must be followed separately.

Why did the background look clear while the face looked soft?

A wide or textured scene spends encoding detail away from the subject. Crop closer to the required head-and-shoulders composition and start again from the original.

When should I use the 100KB page instead?

Use 100KB when the receiving portal allows it and fine facial or document detail matters. There is no benefit in forcing 50KB below the published maximum.
